چکیده
Prevention of ovarian carcinoma Oral contraceptive pills Use of oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) has been associated with a significant reduction in the risk of ovarian cancer. Specifically, after one year of use, the risk has been shown to decrease by 10–12%, and by approximately 50% after five years of use. The Cancer and Steroid Hormone (CASH) study researchers reported that the reduction in ovarian cancer risk was the same irrespective of the type or amount of estrogen or progestin in the OCP [1]. Follow-up analysis of CASH data have indicated that formulations with high levels of progestin are associated with a lower risk of ovarian cancer compared with formulations with low progestin concentrations [2]. The Steroid Hormones and Reproductions (SHARE) study was noteworthy for finding no difference in ovarian cancer risk between androgenic and nonandrogenic pills [2]. Women harboring genetic mutations that predispose them to the development of breast and ovarian cancer (ie, the breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 and 2 [BRCA1 and BRCA2] mutation carriers) also seem to benefit from a reduction in risk of ovarian cancer through the use of OCP [3].

The Prevention of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer: A Personal View
Options for the prevention of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer include screening, preventive surgery and chemoprevention. Screening studies with magnetic resonance imaging of the breast are promising but the technology is not widespread and MRI is unlikely to be available as a screening tool in the near future. Prophylactic oophorectomy and mastectomy are effective preventive measures and a...
متن کاملFallopian Tube Carcinoma: A Case Report and Review of Litrature
Primary fallopian tube carcinoma is a rare tumor that histologically and clinically resembles epithelial ovarian cancer. Here we introduce a case of tubal carcinoma in a postmenopausal woman. The diagnosis of primary fallopian tube carcinoma is rarely considered preoperatively and is usually first appreciated by the pathologist. Because of low frequency of tubal carcinoma, there are few systemi...
متن کاملPersonalizing CA125 levels for ovarian cancer screening.
Screening trials for the early detection of ovarian cancer in the general population and in patients at a high risk for this disease have so far failed to show a reduction of ovarian cancer-specific mortality. Current screening modalities include pelvic examinations, transvaginal ultrasounds, and cancer antigen 125 (CA125) serum marker levels, which are associated with a high false-positive rat...
متن کاملOvarian Cancer and BRCA1/2 Testing: Opportunities to Improve Clinical Care and Disease Prevention
Without prevention or screening options available, ovarian cancer is the most lethal malignancy of the female reproductive tract. High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is the most common histologic subtype, and the role of germline BRCA1/2 mutation in predisposition and prognosis is established. Given the targeted treatment opportunities with PARP inhibitors, a predictive role for BRCA1/2 mu...
متن کاملFailure to Demonstrate the Role of High Risk Human Papilloma Virus in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
Background and Aims: Ovarian cancer is one of most common causes of cancer related women's mortalities. Human papilloma virus is a known factor concerning cervical cancer but its role in causing ovarian cancer is not yet verified. A few studies also identified HPV DNA in ovarian carcinoma tissues. However, some studies did not detect HPV DNA in ovarian carcinoma tissues. In this articl...
